Hullabaloo - The Dettor Team
To All Friends and Family,
2020 has been one of the most unique and challenging years of our lives. Tragedy, hardship, and masks have been the theme of this year. Yet despite all that, we persevered. I think quarantine drove us all a little crazy and at points, I was determined to leave it all behind and take a sailboat to sea. Unfortunately, many people were impacted more severely than others, loss of jobs and loved ones happened to too many people; my thoughts and prayers are with you all. As this year has dragged on, finding stability and normalcy in the little things has everyone a little more introspective. I know having the opportunity to get out on the Chesapeake Bay for me was perfect. Growing up boating and spending countless days fishing, I find peace on the water…catching a rockfish helps too.
For the past seven years, a special fall day has been marked on my calendar. A day filled with fun, triumph, morality, and purpose, as a special group of friends and family from all over come together to support a great cause. Twelve years ago, a group of friends along with my father started Fish for a Cure to raise money for the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center after one of their wives recovered from cancer there. In 2009, the organization decided to support and fundraise for a local charity closer to home. Since then, Fish for a Cure, through the Paul C. Dettor Captain’s Challenge and the event’s charitable auction, has raised $3.4 million to support the Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Team Hullabaloo is devoted to driving that number higher every year. We know this year has been financially hard for a lot of people. We hope if you can, you will help support us. This year I will be representing Gettysburg Men’s Lacrosse as myself and fellow teammates take on this charitable event! As competitive as we are, catching the largest fish is nothing compared to making a difference by raising money for such a meaningful cause. Every dollar directly supports the cancer institutes patient and nurse programs to provide top care and treatment for those who need it most. This year is no different and on top of Covid-19, cancer is still a very real event that unfortunately has impacted all of us.
I thank all of you for your years of friendship and support.
